The Benefits of Making a Legacy Gift

  • You may be able to make a substantially larger gift from your estate, due to its value having increased over your lifetime.
  • Many types of legacy gifts offer you substantial tax benefits; some offer these benefits during both your lifetime, and afterwards.
  • By planning your gift in advance, you have peace of mind knowing that your gift is in place for the future and will carry with it your family name.
  • If you notify us of your legacy gift, we will be happy to consider you a member of our Heritage Circle and offer you recognition for your thoughtful act of kindness.

Bequests
The most common legacy gift is to include The Belmont House Foundation as a beneficiary in your Will, which is called a bequest. It can be a set dollar amount, a gift of personal property, or a percentage of the residue of your estate. The charitable tax receipt your estate receives for your bequest can reduce or eliminate the taxes your estate has to pay in the year of your death and for the prior year, meaning you can leave more of your estate to your other beneficiaries. Unless you specify otherwise, upon your death your gift will be used to fund the area of greatest need. You can also choose to endow your bequest; for more information about this please contact us.

Endowed Funds
If you would like to make a gift that continues to provide The Belmont House Foundation with interest income every year in perpetuity, you can consider making a gift to our Donor Endowment Fund. For more information, contact us.

Gifts of Life Insurance
If you would like to give more, but can’t right now, an ideal way to give can be to purchase an insurance policy and make The Belmont House Foundation its owner and beneficiary. By doing so, all the premiums you pay are tax deductible during your lifetime, and we receive the entire cash value after your death.

You can also name the Belmont House Foundation as the beneficiary of an existing policy that you no longer need to provide financial security for your heirs.

Trusted partner agents can offer life insurance policies from $5,000 to whatever amount you like, and that require no medical examination to qualify. Please contact us for more information.

Other Legacy Gifts
Charitable gift annuities, and gifts of art and other tangible property are other examples of planned giving. Please contact us for more information.
