Christopher Morgan is a retired partner of international law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. He was a member of the Capital Markets group and led the Toronto office for 30 years. He is on the Board of Directors of Alpha Cancer Technologies Inc., a private clinical stage biotechnology company with platform technologies in Immunotherapy and Immuno-Oncology, and Applied Science, Inc., a developer and vendor of process automation and data management solutions for the global blood collection and hospital markets. Mr. Morgan holds a Bachelor of Applied Science, a J.D. and an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto. He joined the Belmont House Board of Directors in 2020.

Kathryn is an accomplished health care leader with a passion for seniors’ care and more than 30 years’ experience in a variety of areas within the health care field. Most recently she was the CEO of Self-Directed Care Ontario, and prior to that was the CEO of the Central East Community Care Access Centre, after a long tenure as a senior executive within home and community care. Prior to her home care roles, she was a health care consultant supporting a variety of organizations in Ontario across the breadth of the health care field. She began her career as a physiotherapist. Kathryn has previous governance experience both as a consultant and as a board member of the former Rouge Valley Health System, where she completed her tenure as the Chair. Kathryn has a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy degree from the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Health Science in Health Administration degree from the University of Toronto, and also completed the Advanced Health Leadership Program at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. She joined the Belmont House Board of Directors in 2020.

Joanne Beaton is a Chartered Professional Accountant and accomplished leader in both the not-for-profit and private sectors. Joanne has spent the majority of her professional career working with two national charities in senior roles and most recently joined the ‘C-suite’ in the automotive sector. She is a member of the Human Resource Professionals’ Association, the Institute of Corporate Directors, and the Canadian Institute of Management and the Risk Management Society. She was recognized with an award for her long-standing volunteer service to the Chartered Professional Accountants Association of Ontario. Born and raised in Halifax, she is a graduate of Saint Mary’s University and has attained both Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified General Accountant designations. Joanne obtained her risk management designation at the University of Toronto, along with a Professional Manager designation, and is recognized as a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders. She has also served as an active volunteer with a variety of charities, and joined the Board of Belmont House in 2018 when a relative’s long-term care experience motivated her to become involved.

Wynne de Jong is the Director of Health Services at Upper Canada College and Review Editor for Healthcare Quarterly, Longwoods Publishing. She is also a Surveyor with Accreditation Canada. Wynne holds a Bachelor of Science Nursing degree and a Masters of Clinical Health Sciences-Nursing degree, both from McMaster University. Wynne is a graduate of the Advanced Health Leadership Program-Rotman School of Management and has held an Adjunct Appointment with the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing-University of Toronto. She is the former Chief Nurse Executive & Director of Interprofessional Practice and Clinical Education at West Park Healthcare Centre. Wynne held a senior leadership position with the Central West Local Health Integration Network and was Director of Nursing and Professional Practice at Toronto General Hospital-University Health Network. Wynne leads for health system transformation to advance health for all in a culture of safety, engagement, continuous quality improvement, and people-centered care. In her current role, Wynne leads to ensure optimal planning, delivery, and evaluation of health services in support of the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical health and wellbeing of students and the UCC community.

Michael Heffer, RPh, MHSc. is a health care leader and consultant with more than 25 years of clinical leadership experience. As Clinical Program Director at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Unity Health Toronto, for over a decade, he led exceptional patient care teams in Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory Medicine, Inter-professional Practice, Pharmacy, Women’s and Children’s Programs, Clinical Engineering and Cardiology/Respiratory/Neurology Diagnostic Services. Michael held a Faculty position as Course Coordinator and Lecturer at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto for more than ten years. He is passionate about teaching future health care providers and was recognized with the Inter-professional Education Teaching Award at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. As an independent consultant and Life Coach, Michael mentors healthcare professionals, and is a certified assessor in Psychometrics, including Emotional Intelligence (EQi2) and Myers-Briggs (MBTI). Michael is frequently sought out for his expertise in Healthcare Research Ethics. For more than 30 years he has been a Research Ethics Board member and has also held Chair and Vice-chair REB positions at several University-affiliated teaching hospitals. He is certified in Canada GCP Human Research and TCPS 2 Research Ethics and is author and co-author of several research studies/papers. His many professional affiliations include membership with the Canadian College of Health Service Leaders, Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and the Ontario Pharmacist’s Association. He joined the Belmont House Board of Directors in 2020.

Subashini Kangesan is a business leader with extensive experience improving processes in the telecommunications and public sector industry. She has expertise driving operational excellence programs, across the entire value chain for business customers, to improve customer experience and operational efficiency. Ms. Kangesan holds her Bachelors (B.Comm) degree from University of Toronto and her Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), from Schulich School of Business, York University. She is also a certified facilitator and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (LSSBB). Previously, she has been a board of director at Humewood house, where the organization re-skilled women with children so that they can be independent, and be a part of the enriched society. Likewise, she is passionate about helping women, children and the aged, so that they can enjoy a wholesome and fulfilling life.

Diane is a former Associate Deputy Minister with the Ontario Public Service (OPS), and throughout her career has developed extensive experience in business transformation and health policy. Her most recent roles include: Ontario’s first Chief Talent Officer where she led the modernization of leadership practices in the (OPS); Executive Lead for the team that transformed the beverage alcohol retailing system and HydroOne IPO; and Executive Officer of the Ontario Public Drugs Program where she implemented significant changes in drug pricing and coverage. Diane was also the Assistant Deputy Minister Responsible for Seniors and developed the Legislation governing Retirement Homes in Ontario. She has led teams developing health human resource policy and planning for health care provider training, education, supply and distribution initiatives, data and health information planning and analysis, health care provider negotiations, rural health policy, labour relations, and service delivery restructuring. She is currently a board member of CorHealth, which provides strategic leadership to improve cardiac, stroke and vascular care in the province, and of the Ontario Financing Authority which manages the Province’s debt and borrowing program. Diane’s previous Board experience includes the Ontario Electricity Financial Corporation (Audit Committee member), the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technology in Health (Chair, Audit and Finance Committee), and the Michener Institute of Canada. Diane has a Bachelor of Public Relations from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax and an MBA from the University of Ottawa. She received her ICD.D designation in June 2018.

Don is currently Chair of Northstar Europe; a Luxembourg based trade finance company. Don is a Director of the Canadian Ditchley Foundation (CDF). From 1997 to 2020, Don was a partner and policy advisor with Gowling WLG LLP. His clients included mining, pension funds, real estate, and the Government of Canada. Previous to Gowling Don worked for the Government of Canada, primarily the Department of Finance. Don has served on both corporate and not-for-profit Boards, including the executive committee of both Saint Elizabeth Health Care (SEHC) and McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Don resides in Toronto with his - lovely & talented - wife. He has three grown and accomplished children and two adorable granddaughters. He join the Belmont House Board of Directors in 2024.

Valerie Pringle was one of Canada’s best known broadcasters and is now a respected public figure and volunteer. She started her career at age 19 as a student reporter with CFRB Radio in Toronto after graduating from Radio and Television Arts at Ryerson. She helped launch the CBC-TV news and current affairs program, MIDDAY. Valerie moved to CTV in 1993 and co-hosted Canada AM until 2001. Valerie then helped produce, write and host documentaries and series including “Valerie Pringle Has Left the Building”, “Test of Faith” and “The Canadian Antiques Roadshow”. She is now involved full-time in not for profit work. She is Chair of the Trans Canada Trail Foundation. She is a member of the Foundation Board of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation, the Canadian Broadcast Heritage Museum and the International Festival of Authors. She is a mentor for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. Valerie was awarded an honourary doctorate from Ryerson University and was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada in 2006 for her contributions to communications and her volunteer work.

Stephen Rice is an accountant who has spent much of his professional career working in accounting firms in Toronto as an accounting and tax practitioner whose practice is centered around personal, corporate, trust, and estate tax planning and compliance. Stephen earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Ryerson University and holds both Chartered Accountant and Chartered Professional Accountant designations. In a volunteer capacity, Stephen has previously founded a charity committee at a prior accounting firm which actively raised funds through various charitable initiatives for JDRF Canada and The Princess Margaret’s Ride to Conquer Cancer, as well as participated in various holiday food drives for The Daily Bread Food Bank. Stephen joined the Belmont House Board of Directors in 2024.

Elaine Roberts served as President, Treasurer and Principal Financial and Accounting Officer of Oppenheimer Holdings Inc. from 1977 until 2013 and she served as a member of its Board of Directors of both the company and its domestic and foreign subsidiaries until 2018. From 2016 to 2018, she also chaired its Audit Committee that oversees, among other things, internal financial control policies, procedures, and risk management. Elaine was responsible for all financial reporting and integral to acquisition decisions, implementation and oversight for Oppenheimer, a leading middle market investment bank and full-service stock broker-dealer. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto and holds both Chartered Accountant and Chartered Professional Accountant designations. She is a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. In a volunteer capacity, she is a past member of the Board of Directors at Holland Bloorview Children’s Hospital. She joined the Board of Directors of Belmont House in 2017.

Donald C. Stewart is a seasoned financial executive with more than 30 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry both in Canada and internationally. Formerly he held the position of Chairperson at Banc America Securities Canada. He also served in senior leadership roles with ABN AMRO Hoare Govett and Credit Suisse (Toronto and Zurich). His current Board and committee affiliations include the Beckers Milk Company Limited, Bruce Telecom, CDEV, KEB Hana Bank Canada, SBI Canada Bank, The Michael Garron Hospital, and Lost City Golf Club. He also served on Boards and committees of the Canadian Bankers Association, American Canadian Chamber of Commerce, S.C. Johnson & Son Canada and the United Way of Canada. He joined the Board of Directors of Belmont House in 2017.
